Summary
In 1774 the First Continental Congress met. They issued a Declaration of Rights. The Declaration of Independence was a document that announced the colonies break with Britain. The Battle of Yorktown was the last major battle of Revolutionary War. The Treaty of Paris is the document In which Great Britain recognized the United States as a country. The court case Marbury V. Madison established the Supreme Court's right to declare that a law violates the Constitution. Britain forced some Americans into the British navy. This caused the War of 1812. This was the second war between British and American forces. The Americans won. Nationalism belief that the interests of the nation as a whole are more important than interests of any region or the interests of other countries. Manifest destiny was the belief that it was Americas God given right to settle land all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Emancipation Proclamation was the 1863 document that freed slaves in areas in rebellion.
Original Thought
In my opinion, I think it was very hard living in America because of the hardships and struggle that everyone had to go through. Even though it was hard back then, there were also interesting things that happened too. The Declaration of Independence was written and signed, slaves were freed, and America became a free country!
Slavery In America
Slavery in America began when the first African slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, to help production of tobacco. Slavery was throughout the American colonies in the 17th and 18th centuries, and African-American slaves helped build the economic foundations of the new nation.
